Civil War Perspectives

Registration opens Friday, August 28, 2026.

This class will explore lesser-known aspects of the Civil War era. While most people know of Lincoln as a War Leader and the Great Emancipator, he pursued an energetic and innovative domestic agenda including homesteading, land grant college, paper currency and a transcontinental railroad.   We will also discuss the Vice Presidents who served under Lincoln, Hannibal Hamlin and Andrew Johnson, as well as the only Confederate Vice President – Alexander Stephens.

David Hudiak, a retired attorney, is an American History Instructor in the Osher Life Long Learning Program of Widener University.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Haverford College and a Jusis Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
