8) Hollywood Does Politics: Campaigns and Candidates in the Movies

Registration opens Friday, August 28, 2026.

November 2026 midterm elections may prove to be a watershed referendum. This course will include six films concerning the electoral process: Advise and Consent, The American President, Ides of March, Election, Dave, and The Candidate.

Instructor: Richard Monastra

Richard Monastra is a native of South Philadelphia with a BA in American History from LaSalle University, an MS in Economics from Drexel University and graduate work in American History at Temple University. In addition to teaching those subjects in high school and college classes for 42 years, he has taught other social studies courses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
